about JOE

Joe Bennett is a

writer for theatre, audio, and telly.

From Coventry in the West Midlands, Joe was always a writer; going on to study English & Creative Writing at Coventry University and then an MA in Writing at Warwick University (although he did drop out of this one).

A published poet and spoken word artist, he is currently developing his first full-length play as part of the 2023 Young Vic Creator’s Programme. Specialising in Comedy, Drama, Crime and LGBTQIA+ storytelling (with a love for anything horror-adjacent), Joe pulls heavily from his experiences as a Queer and Neurodivergent individual to bring a deftness and unique honesty to his writing.

Alongside working as a Script Editor in the production and development of scripted comedy and drama at the likes of BBC Studios Comedy and Snafu Pictures, he is co-developing a YA-drama with Licklemor Productions. He’s ridiculously passionate about raising awareness for Midland's voices/stories, having worked across the Sky Rep, 4Screenwriting, and Steven Knight’s Making It In Birmingham competitions as a Shadow Script Editor.

He has written three episodes of Ready, Eddie, Go!, an animated series for Sky Studios and Hocus Pocus Studios under lead writer Joseph Morpurgo, and provided additional material for Netflix's Bad Dinosaurs alongside BAFTA-winning writer Natt Tapley and Academy Award Nominated director Simone Giampaolo. In 2022, he was shortlisted for Writing West Midlands 'Room 204', BBC Open Call, and BBC Writer's Academy.

Before moving to London, he helped to establish the Coventry Comedy Open Mic Night as part of Comedy Central’s Coventry Comedy Festival.

He wrote this bit in the third person because he’s very profesh.
